Musical Revolution: Battle of the DJs Edition

Campus Activities Board (CAB) presented the third annual Battle of the DJs event in the Wallace-Dutra Amphitheater. The event was open the current UC Merced undergraduate students and the Merced public for a minimum $5 charity donation to Love Faith & Hope Inc. Merced.

As dusk slipped into night, the amphitheater became a supernova that exploded with fusions of colorful lights and beats. UC Merced students tossed and played with beach balls as the DJs warmed up.

The event’s MC and first time attendee, Ajay Bainiwal exclaimed, “I look forward to the energy that the students are putting into this event! My friends and I are spending time together by taking a break from studying for midterms.”

Merced College student Edward Pilola participated as a DJ in the event for the first time.   When asked how he prepared for the event he replied, “I looked at my playlist and I talked to my brothers who are also DJs.”

The amphitheater came to life as crowds formed and students waved their LED light sticks in anticipation. A variety of genres such as deep house, dubstep and hip-hop flooded the Little Lake with sound. Students danced and swayed in sync to the hot beats the DJs were playing as the night unfolded into a galactic rave.

Before going onstage to fight for the Golden Record, the Battle of the DJs 2013 champion Ian Buzco said, “Wasn’t expecting to win that year…I was only DJ-ing for a year when I competed for the first time.” This year was his second time competing to reclaim his title as champion.

Battle of the DJs was a great way for UC and the Merced community to connect and unwind in this charitable event.
