The National Society of Collegiate Scholars Fall 2015: New Member Induction

On Saturday September 19th, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) chapter of UC Merced saw 37 new scholars inducted into their society.

“I’m really happy with how the Induction Ceremony turned out,” says Breanne Orey, chapter president, “We couldn’t have done it without the help of Alpha Phi Omega, the IT Team, and Maggie Garcia”.

In order to be invited into the chapter, a student has to earn at least a 3.4 GPA in their first two years of college and although the UC Merced chapter is a mere three years old, it already has a dedicated number of active members and is growing quickly as exceptional students are no rarity at our university. Following induction into the society, there are a plethora of benefits including exclusive discounts, scholarships, and leadership opportunities. For example, this past summer members attended ScholarCon in Florida which featured talks from entrepreneurs such as Lauren Berger, Kal Penn, and others. all leading names in entrepreneurship and various other scholastic endeavors. The conference is regarded as an amazing experience and is one of the several opportunities the chapter hopes its members will be able to experience in the coming years.

“I’m excited to see our chapter grow this year and become a bigger part of the campus,” Orey adds. “We really want to establish more connections with other clubs and organizations to collaborate on new events!”

Everyone is thrilled to see where this chapter is heading. With a new executive board in place for the 2015-2016 school year, the organization is already set to promote academics and leadership on campus.
