Bare Necessities Success

The Office of Student Life (OSL) hosted their second Bare Necessities 5k Run on Friday, May 2, 2014.

The Run was designed to bring awareness and clothing to Merced’s homeless population.  For two weeks prior to the event, bins were placed around campus so students can drop off their gently used or new clothes to be donated to the Merced  Rescue Mission and given to Merced county’s homeless and needy.

The OSL decided to host this event again following the success of the last semester’s Run. According to Brandon McKnight, a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student and event co-coordinator, the Bare Necessities Run in fall 2013 produced a “hallway full of clothes.”

Students love that the event is fun and helps the community.

“I like to participate in what my community does. I like to help the homeless as best as possible,” said Tommy Tran, a second year.
